Today, IBM Poland and the Wroclaw University of Technology announced that the first university cloud computing center in Poland will be created. Wroclaw University agreed to completely redesign its academic curriculum to focus more on cloud computing based courses. The 1500 or so university students at Wroclaw will both adopt cloud technologies and learn how to design them.

The professors at Wroclaw University are very excited about the decision to implement cloud technology. They plan on starting immediately later this summer. The Director of the Institute of Computer Engineering, Control and Robotics at Wroclaw, Professor Czeslaw Smutnicki, said, “The new cloud center will provide a common platform for students and professors, industry partners and government agencies to work on real solutions based on cloud computing that will align people and technology effectively, and will generate value for both services providers and clients.”

Cloud computing, delivering information technology over the internet, has risen over the past few years. It is rapidly spreading and becoming accepted as a major technology service. Cloud computing is everywhere, in social networking sites and text messages. There is a lot of potential for the cloud and the students at Wroclaw will take advantage of this.

Wroclaw University of Technology is the first university to partner with IBM and its Multipurpose Cloud Computing Center. The updated academic curriculum will be based on IBM Tivoli software. For some time, management thinkers (and thinking managers) have been stressing the urgent need for radical new approaches to the corporation. In this paradigm, the bottom line cedes its pre-eminence to the top: the corporation concentrates on developing new revenue streams from new products and services, while optimising income from existing lines through innovative marketing and rapid exploitation of changing customer needs and tastes. The new kind of corporation is, above all, ‘agile’.

 The dictionary defines ‘agile’ as ‘nimble or active: quick-moving and supple’. For decades, the big business has been compared to a supertanker, which can only be turned at lugubrious speed. Top managers fret about the lack of creativity and innovation beneath them, below the supertanker’s decks, but their own decision-making processes and command structures stultify efforts – even ones which they themselves have promoted – to develop the new and rejuvenate the old.

The new changeability is demanded in every major area of corporate strategy and tactics.
